Despite their attempts to cover up their evidence of genocide, the Nazis left behind many eyewitnesses--not just the humans who suffered at their hands, but also millions of pages of documents. The documents showed evidence of a crime that was premeditated and explicitly planned to include attacking the property rights of those to be expelled or annihilated. Through theft, confiscation, coercive transfers, and downright pillage, an unprecedented scale of cultural erasure occurred. Even after 81 years, museums and researchers are still trying to piece together the story of one of the largest art thefts in history. Join us as we explore what was plundered throughout Europe, how restitution works, and what museums have been doing as research has advanced.
